Ahead of His Time

My now 21 year old son as a 3 year-old; planker-in-training, methinks...

James Goes to NZ

On Wednesday morning I took my son to the airport for his long anticipated trip to New Zealand.  He was to go with 2 friends, but Things Happened and it ended up just being him.  He is usually such a laid back guy, but was quite excited by the prospect of a whole week of boarding.  Here he is with his gorgeous girlfriend Holly
I took on the persona of the Well Behaved Mother until he was on the escalator heading downstairs to the departure area.  It was fun to wave madly and shout "Byeeee" - he was suitably embarrassed.  Sometimes it's great being a parent.

James's 21st

My son turned 21 last week and the immediate family had a delicious lunch at The Lighthouse in Cleveland to celebrate.  The emphasis was on seafood, as befits the bayside location.  Perfect weather, wonderful views
and really good dishes, including Thai oysters
and croquembouche
One of his gifts was an oversized die - did you know that all the dots add up to 21?**
That's his gorgeous girlfriend, Holly, on the left of the picture.

**and as Christine rightly points out, opposite sides add up to 7!!

Southern Spice Indian Restaurant

On Saturday night James, Holly and I went out to celebrate James' birthday the day before on the 2nd.  As it happens, it's Holly's birthday on the very same day - they were born just 5 hours apart!  The Southern Spice Indian Restaurant in Upper Mt Gravatt is fabulous.  Really different food and lots of choices for a vegetarian (which Holly is).  Yummy!

Idle hands

I came home Tuesday afternoon to the usual - a son sitting in front of the TV.
"How was your day?"
"Fine."
The usual.

"By the way, Mum, I got bored, and I felt like making something."
The "something" was a tiramisu cake. From scratch.
In my wide-eyed amazement, I scanned the kitchen - hang on a minute - the washing up's done as well.....

So they say nothing good comes from boredom? I respectfully disagree...
