I finished work early yesterday and on my way back to the car in West End, I stopped by GOMA. I'd heard about the finches. The exhibit is called From Here to Ear. I was alone in this room with specially composed music, a constructed environment and the live birds. It was awesome. No photos were allowed, but this Youtube video is better than any photo I can take....
You'll find this near the cinema
I was VERY tempted by the slides
And who WOULDN'T want to run their fingers through all those white lego blocks
The most amazing structures and, just as in real life, abandoned projects and half finished dreams...
You can see that these metal balls are reflected in a big black cube...
A door magically opens and as you step inside the door quietly shuts behind you, leaving your senses buzzing...
What is real, what is reflection, am I going to fall in the water?
You can take a wish from this wall of ribbons and leave your own. According to tradition, once the ribbon wears away and falls off, the wish will come true...
I wish to remain curious
I wish I had a tail to show my mood

Japanese Bakery
Along Adelaide Street, not far from the Angus and Robertson shop, is this great bakery - the 2 in 1 Japanese bakery. I had the Italian Mushroom pastry
followed by a custard platypus,
washed down with a guava drink. Great prices and different food - you've got to be happy with that!

Star Sisters
At February's meeting of Queensland Quilters, a member stood up and started telling her story of how she'd bought these star blocks at the 2008 members' market day and would love to know who had sold them to her. Yeah, yeah, I thought. When the photo of the blocks came around I thought "hang on a minute...they look familiar" and then I saw the handwriting on the plastic bag - **I** was the seller.
So I went up to Denise later and introduced myself. She had taken the blocks, made a few more, and completed a quilt using the Seven Sisters pattern.
Tuesday night I got to see the quilt in person. She's done an amazing job! It's no accident that I sold the blocks for $5!! But look at the result - thanks to Denise's hard work
She very generously asked me my thoughts about a good name - we agreed on "Star Sisters". The quilt will be entered in the QQ Show in October.

Fuscia
We had a good break for lunch on Monday so we headed to Fuscia, near Gallipoli Barracks. My Spaghetti Porta was delicious.
Spaghetti, fresh tomatoes, sauteed baby squid, chorizo sausage, roast chilli, shaved lemon skin, evoo*, a lil red sauce and English spinach.
*for non Rachel Ray afficionados, extra virgin olive oil...

Warning - Photo May Cause Distress
I was minding my own business having breakfast before work the other day and looked up to see this.
Generous soul that I am, I just wanted to share the experience...

Bribie and Forest Glen
Margaret and I had a lovely drive to Bribie Island on Sunday. The Cancer Council markets were disappointing, but there was nipper activity on the beach - lots of young kids running and swimming, being cheered on by family. We opted for breakfast and coffee with a view from the upstairs dining room of the Surf Life Saving Club. I felt like visiting The Patchwork Angel, so off we went. Here it is
Notice anything about the carpark? You'd think that would have given me a clue, but no, I walked all the way up to the sign to see - closed on Sundays - damn!! Oops - gosh darn!! (Nearly forgot about the cuss-free zone around churches).

Broadstrokes
It was get together and sharing time last Saturday morning. We met at Salt in Rosalie so that we could inject some funds into the area that had been so affected by the flood in January. I highly recommend this place for a stick to your ribs, but far from ordinary, breakfast on a weekend. The waiters were very attentive and on the banter/positive interaction with customers scale they were pretty close to a 10. I ordered 2 sausages on a bed of white bean mash with 2 eggs on the side.
Yummy, yummy, yummy. Way too much for an ordinary female mortal, but still, I made a valiant effort at demolishing everything on the plate.
I shared my ATCs and some gallery catalogues. Kathryn had her Valentino pieces. I loved this book she put together. She had fun with it and it showed...
