Study

It's been a while - you probably don't even remember this post...
It all started with good intentions and then one thing led to another and,well, I never did get around to completing the plastering.
Then Lawrie the plasterer ("small jobs specialist") entered my life last Wednesday, on Thursday he'd fixed the cornice and tidied up the plastering, ready to paint.

The prepping and undercoat/sealer went on yesterday.  Today is painting day!!!

This is called 4 patch 4 baby - the hand dyes in the larger squares come from one piece of fabric that I fussy cut and placed...I like it!  (And yes, it, too, has a label - woo hoo!!)

I finally put the finishing stitches into the binding of this quilt I started - oh - 5-6 years ago?

It even has a label!

Yes, I know it's on it's side - Blogger is being silly - it's taken me ages just to load it :-)

Wavy Scarf

Shhhh!  This is for Mum but I wanted to show it to you and my Thursday ladies first.
By knitting part the way across a number of rows you end up with this delightful wavy effect.
I have enough yarn to make one for myself too (it's Zhivago originally bought to make a sideways knitted vest that I pulled out three - three! - times - so I'm sooo pleased I have finally found a good use for it...).

Shawl Finished

Remember the shawl I was knitting?  It is now F.I.N.I.S.H.ed - I sewed up the seam last night and worked in all the ends. (The new owner will have to dampen it a bit and pin the points so that they don't curl under as you can see they do in this photo.)
 Ta-da!!!

Progress

I have now completed all 20 blocks of my candlewick quilt.  I hope you get an idea of the designs.  They are from a book of Celtic Designs I bought from Margaret's Fabrics.  You can see all the designs here.

 

  

  

  

  

  

 The next step is to get the cotton lace that is stitched over the seams.  After that, I will sew on the borders, quilt it and it will be F.I.N.I.S.H.ed!!!

Knitting

I pulled this knitting project from my "to do" basket a couple of days ago and have been working on it madly since then - remember, this is the year of the F.I.N.I.S.H.  It's going to be a baby shawl.  I promised to knit it for a friend waiting for her grandchild to arrive.  Ahem - that child is now one!  Luckily Sue has another grandchild due.  I'm up to the lacy edging, not much more to do now...

In my quest to F.I.N.I.S.H. this year I have just completed this cross stitch.

I used one strand of two different threads to give it a more dimensional look.

F.I.N.I.S.H.!!

One of my big failings is that I start heaps more things than I finish - sometimes it's almost painful to pick up the pieces of an abandoned project and push on towards the finish line...I am definitely a sprinter and not a long distance runner in that regard, and if I come upon a road block or I run out of steam - well, it's so much easier to take a different route and start something new!

But this year will be different...

Remember I posted before about my Block a Day project?? Here and here.

It stalled at March 17.

So this year I am starting from there and will be working through the WHOLE YEAR!!

Here is my process for each block -

select the colours (I am using batiks, and usually keep the colours fairly close to the original, with a white print for the background)
cut the pieces as indicated
put the pieces and the corresponding date into a baggie for sewing later.
I can cut in between doing other things, and then I can sit down and do a few blocks at a time at the machine.
